The "Sistah Mermaid" design was inspired by a conversation in which Jordana wondered out loud, "How come you never see any African American or POC mermaids anywhere?" She decided that someone should fix that...so she set out to create her own version of a Mermaid of color who would feel more familiar to her in hopes that other little girls one day would not have to wonder why they didn't see themselves reflected in beneath the sea stories. She still loves Ariel...she just wants to see Ayana or Aiesha too!
